Parents died in murder-suicide as 16-year-old daughter slept: cops

A Texas couple died in a murder-suicide at their home as their 16-year-old daughter slept, according to authorities.
Police arrived early Monday to Sugar Land, Texas, to discover a slain woman in the driveway and her husband dead in his bedroom, news station KRIV reported.
Sreenivas Nakirekanti, 51, allegedly shot and killed his 46-year-old wife, Shanti, then turned the gun on himself, authorities said.
He allegedly called 911 and gave his home address before he fatally shot himself in the chest, according to news station KTRK.
Their 16-year-old daughter answered the door when authorities arrived and told them her dad was not coming out of the bedroom.
Authorities said the teen was not injured and was asleep during the fatal incident.
Police said the preliminary investigation suggested the married couple’s deaths were a murder-suicide.
“You just never know what’s going on inside of a house until you get into it, so we’re going to make sure we do our investigation properly and get all the facts,” Sugar Land Police Chief Eric Robins told KTRK.
United Airlines confirmed Tuesday that Shanti Nakirekanti was an employee for the company.
“The United family is deeply saddened over the passing of our employee,” a spokesperson told The Post. “We extend our sincere condolences to her loved ones during this difficult time.”
Her husband was working as a director for NRG Energy at the time of the incident.
“We are aware of the tragic situation involving Sreeni Nakirekanti,” the company told The Post. “We are reaching out to those who were closest to him to offer assistance and are keeping his family members in our thoughts and prayers.”
